If your Dad has recently retired and is wanting something to put his extra time into.  You may want to consider giving him a rifle that has a synthetic or laminated stock,  since your Dad is an avid rifle collector.

Synthetic stock rifles are very much in nowadays since they are priced much affordable now than having to buy the original or even replacement parts that come in another finish and texture.  What is great with these synthetic stocks is that he can use it in different kinds of weather — it promises to not break down at all.

If searching for a laminated stock, you’d notice that there are several layers of wood with matching growth rings with various colors.  If this gun stock will be used for hunting, get one with a matte finish so the light will not reflect as much as a shiny stock.  Laminated Savage Stocks are very attractive to the eyes and can give your Dad a firm grip without getting glared back at.

Running low on budget?  You can opt to buy a Savage 110 replacement for his old and rusty one.  The Savage 110 replacement is affordable and can be further customized to fit a left-handed user.  Old firearms don’t have these features but customizing them can do the trick.

While searching for the best, try the Savage Model 93.  It has a capacity for a 5-round magazine.  Aside from this the Model 93 has a 20.75 inches barrel and 39.5 inches in length.  He could easily rest his chin on the stock if he wants to use it.  Don’t feel bad if your dad wouldn’t use it but rather display the Savage Model 93 and clean it a couple of times so he can brag it to his fellow retiree friends.

Rifle Replacement

The Remington Rifle is one of the older kinds of firearms in the market.  So if you’re looking for a cost-effective, sturdy rifle with after-market accessories to choose from, it has got to be a Remington.

The Kraq and Mauser are classic rifles so it is best to have gunsmith or any gun shop to check it especially of being used for a long time.  This Mauser is expensive nowadays since it is a collector’s item as opposed to the much affordable Mauser.  The Kraq should be purchased not to be used rather to be displayed due to its high intricate value using laminated wood.

The Spanish Mauser rifle is very much known for its Model 93 and was used over and over during the earlier wars between Spanish and American Troops back in 1898.  The only flaw of the Spanish Mauser is that its magazine reloads a little slower as compared with the Kraq.

With regards to Stevens and Marlin rifles, the Stevens can outlive other rifles since it’s very durable and easier to maintain.  The Stevens are also accurate, and have less recoil when compared to the Marlin; which by popular demand is one of the rifles being used for game hunting.  It offers a longer distant shot with a greater accuracy.  Elegance of form makes the Marlin so popular with hunters since it has a wood finish and a much straighter grip.

The McMillan Sako Hunter is preferred due to a much easier target acquisition.  Aside from this, the McMillan Sako was designed to have a small cast off and can make target acquisition easier, since its narrow forend can take a #4 barrel contour with a shorter barrel cylinder.  Most guns are usually made for the three-shot accuracy while the McMillan Sako has a five-shot accuracy.

Weatherby Rifle Stocks

Did you know that Weatherby Rifles have been favorites of famous actors of the Wild, Wild West?  Of course you do since you’ve been gawking at it in one of your gun magazines for a time now.  Did you know that these rifles have already designed a slender version of your classic and standard rifle and called it a Vanguard?

Weatherby Rifles have been around since the 70s but a couple of years ago, they have made a tactical rifle that can manage a 3-shot group of less than .99 inches at 100 yards.  A tactical rifle is all about being able to target a straight line at a short distance.

The added design will make women drool over the Vanguard since it also comes in fiberguard composite for a steadier grip.  The rifle’s fiberguard composite comes in matte or stainless steel with the rifle measuring around 44 inches for its overall length which they can easily manage.  Heavy at 7 and ¾ pounds but rest assured, a lighter person needs the weight to keep them from being thrown off the field.

Aside from this, the Vanguard is created specifically for women so that they will have lesser tinkering time to waste in order for them to achieve accuracy of shots.

The Mark V on the other hand is designed for longer distances but still is great for women due to its lightweight features.  Aside from this, in shooting a smaller game, the Mark V is great tool to use since it’s highly accurate and can withstand any weather too.  Women can choose this high caliber rifle in lieu of the former.

So whether you choose the Mark V or not, there are a lot more Weatherby Rifles to choose from with the same accuracy and less recoil and slipping.

Remington Rifle Stocks

The Remington classic hunting rifle is a product of the USA and is often used by the military and law enforcements for their tactical gun-fare.  They are made with detachable magazines intended for an even much faster reloading time.

There came a time when Remington Arms designed a tactical rifle made for consumer use intended for varmint hunting.  This was the Remington ADL.   Varmint hunting is a colloquial term for vermins with the likes of coyotes, wolves, squirrels and groundhogs.

The Remington ADL was later called the 700 SPS or Special Purpose Synthetic.  When you talk about this sniper rifle, it is known for its strength, accuracy and durability at a much affordable price as compared with its brothers.  With a weight of six pounds and 12 ounces, you need to work out your arms a little bit although it’s not that heavy at all as compared with the other rifles.

The difference with its brothers is that it is purely just the looks.  The Remington CDL or the Classic Deluxe has a satiny finish, black tip (fore-end), a grip cap with matching swivel studs and available in ten different calibers such as the 243, .270, 7mm-08 and 280 to name a few.  Remarkably heavy in weight, the CDL is close to 9 pounds, which will help you with the recoil of the larger caliber ammunition.

The Remington BDL is considered the most popular of classic, tactical and sniper rifles for over forty years.  Available in blue, walnut and stainless colored designs, any hunter can fall so easily in love with this rifle.  The BDL has a hinged magazine, front sight (hooded) and rear sight (adjustable).  The Remington BDL tactical rifle is heavier than the CDL by just a pound.

Browning Stocks

Hunting season or not, you can refurbish your old Browning or buy a new one.  There happens to be different choices should you consider before purchasing a gun stock.  The Browning Bar is designed to be scratch resistant and light weight.  In searching for a vintage rifle; look for the A-5 12 Gauge replacement stock when the former starts to show some wear and tear.  It is not a sin to modify your rifle as long as it still is in perfect working condition.  This Browning bar replacement will definitely fit and still have that walnut finish you’ve been so accustomed with.

Stores are available that can offer any replacements you need – may it be for a smaller gun or your classic vintage firearm.  Look for a pistol grip with a thumbhole replacement grip that will work very much to your comfort.  The thumbhole is known to reduce felt recoil thus eliminating the jittery feel of the gun.  Keep in mind that finding a replacement for your firearm’s thumbhole should offer a longer shootability range.

Should you like the Browning Citroi you’re in good hands.  This firearm is very good for hunting purposes.  Aside from this the Browning Citroi is very durable and it would not break down when you need its power the most.  Use the Citroi that comes in a 12-gauge and 30-inch barrel, which will be a good choice for skeet, trap or even sporting.  Aside from this, it is being sold at a price you definitely can afford.

Make sure to fit the stocks before buying them for safety and security measures.

How to Camouflage a Gun Stock

Do you wish you had a camo stock for your rifle but don’t want to buy a new one.  There are a couple of ways to do that without having to spend a lot of money.

One way is to use the camo tape and put it on your stock.  If you do this be sure not to put the tape under the barrel, it will effect the accuracy of your gun.  Some camo tape is not very sticky and can be removed later if you don’t like the looks of it.  With several different patterns of camo tape to choose from, it will be easier to pick the one that best suits the environment you will be using it in.

Another way is to paint your stock.  This option can’t be undone so easily.  If you decide to paint your stock, be sure to get the right tools and paint to do the job.  You can find leaf and stick stencils at various art and craft stores.  If you want to make your own stencils you can get a blank stencil sheets and cut out your own pattern with an Exacto knife.

A friend of mine painted his synthetic stock and used all Krylon products, they have camouflage colored paint.  Take 220 grit sand paper and sand the stock to rough up the surface.  Tape up everything you don’t want painted.  Paint the stock with the primer.  After the primer dries you can use the stencils you have chosen and paint on your pattern.  Just remember to take your time an do it right.  A job well done takes time.

Have you ever wanted or needed to duplicate a gun or rifle stock?  Gun stock duplicators that are made out of welded steel construction are a lot better, they are built to last.  Some are capable of holding wood up to 8 inches in diamiater. Duplicators with ball bearings will produce a more accurate duplicate of the original stock, some duplicators have a .005 inch accuracy.  You can also carve shotgun stocks, pistol grips, and various other items.

Gun Stock Blanks

Have you ever thought of carving you own gun stock?  It would be a real challenge for someone that has never done any carving before.  A challenge that I might try one of these days.

First you have to pick out a gun stock blank.  There are different kinds of wood to choose from.  There are different grades of wood to choose from also.  The price will vary depending on the grade and type of wood.

The lowest price is maple or claro walnut, around 25 to 35 dollars, for a better grade of maple it will range from 50 to 400 dollars. Better grades of claro and English walnut can range from 50 to 1500 dollars.

There are  single piece and two piece stocks.  For double barrel shotguns the blank needs to be wider.  It just depends what you are looking for.  I am sure there is a gun stock that you can find that will fit your gun.
